How to model and verify 2D Plate Members for Slabs and Walls?

1. Define Properties

1-1. Define Material 

1. Select [ N ], [ mm ] in Status bar.

2. Select [ Define > Material ].

3. Enter [ Plate ] in Name > Check off [ Code ] > Enter [ 2.05e+005 N/mm2 ] in 'Modulus of Elasticity'.

4. Click [ OK ].

1-2. Define Thickness

1. Select [ Define > 2D Thickness ].

2. Select [ Plate ] in Material.

3. Enter [ 20 ] in Thickness.

4. Click [ OK ].

 

 

 

 

2. Create Plates

 

2-1. Create Plates

1. Select [ m ] to change the unit.

2. Select [ Member > Plate ].

3. Select [ T20 ] > Click the Icon in Yellow box.

4. Click origin point [ 0, 0, 0 ] > Enter [ 1, 0, 0 ] > Enter [ 0, 1, 0 ] > Enter [ -1, 0, 0 ].

5. Press [ Esc ] to finish.

2-2. Copy Plates

1. Select [ Member > Copy ].

2. Select the plate > Select [ X-axis ] > Enter [ 2 ].

3. Select the 1st plate again > Select [ Y-Axis ] > Enter [ -1.5 ].

4. Select the last plate > Select [ X-axis ] > Enter [ 3@1 ] .

5. Press [ Esc ] to finish.

2-3. Merge Plates

1. Select [ Member > Merge > 2D Merge ].

2. Select the plate > Select [ X-axis ] > Enter [ 2 ].

3. Select the 1st plate again > Select [ Y-Axis ] > Enter [ -1.5 ].

4. Select the last plate > Select [ X-axis ] > Enter [ 3@1 ] .

5. Press [ Esc ] to finish.

2-4. Copy Plates

1. Select [ Member > Copy].

2. Select the last plate > Select [ Y-axis ] > Enter [ -1.5 ].

3. Press [ Esc ] to finish.

2-5. Intersect Plates

1. Click on the icon [ Auto Intersect ].

2. Select [ Member > Beam ].

     Create beams > Snap on the MidPoint of the plate edges to divide the plate into four equal parts.

3. Press [ Esc ] to finish.

4. Select the beams and three intersected plates > Press [ Delete ].

3. Define Loads

 

3-1. Define a Load

1. Select [ kN ] to change the unit.

2. Select [ Load > Pressure ].

3. Select [ Coordinate ] in Type.

4. Enter [ -10 ] in Pressure > Select 4 Plates.

5. Click [ OK ].

4. Define Supports

 

4-1. Define Support - 1

Apply Supports

1. Select [ Boundary > Support ].

2. Select boundary lines to apply [ Fix ] type support.

3. Click [ Apply ].

4-2. Define Support - 2 & 3   

Apply Supports

1. Select boundary line to constrain [ Tx, Ry ].

2. Select boundary line to constrain [ Ty, Rx ].

3. Click [ OK ].

5. Change Local Axis

5-1. Change Local Axis

1. Check Off [ Support ].

2. Click the Icon [ Show/Hide Member Axis ].

3. Select 2 slabs.

4. Select [ Edge 2 ] in X-Axis.

6. Perform Analysis

 

6-1. Perform Analysis - 1

Set Analysis Settings

Check off the icon in Yellow Box [ Show/Hide Member Axis ]

1. Select [ Analysis > Analysis Settings ].

2. Click [ Mesh ].

3. Select [ Division ] in Method of 2D Mesh > Enter [ 10 ] in Length.

4. Click [ OK ].

6-2. Perform Analysis - 2

Define Analysis Case

1. Select [ Analysis > Static/RS ].

    Confirm Settings.

2. Click [ OK ].

3. Select [ Analysis > Run Analysis ].

4. Click [ OK ].

7. Analysis Result

7-1. Analysis Results - 1

Deformation

1. Confirm [ Deformations > Displacement-XYZ ].

2. Check on [ Deform ] > Select [ Scale (*0.5) ].

3. Change unit [ mm ].

4. Check on [ Value ] > Select [ ALL ].

5. Select [ 3 ] in Decimal points.

Check whether these two points are almost identical.

Plate Forces

1. Confirm [ Plate Forces ].

2. Select [ Bending Moment-x (Mxx) ].

3. Select [ Bending Moment-y (Myy) ].

4. Confirm [ Plate Stresses ].

5. Select [ Principal Stress-Major(T/B) ].

6. Select [ Von Mises Stress(T/B) ].
